WHAT DO WE EXIST TO DO?

We like it when audiences laugh. We like it when audiences think. We really like it when they do both at the same time. Mixing entertainment with potentially political/important narratives. Entertainment/Entertainers is a label that has 'tacky' connotations but we want to reclaim this and believe that a good night out is the perfect place for communication, celebration, and a shared experience. Our work is a celebration of people and story. We want to create pockets of joy in the places we visit, the people we work with, and the audiences we meet.

We have a commitment to sharing vital, unheard queer stories, and to opening the doors to underground worlds and queer spaces for our audiences. Representation and visibility is key. We believe the way to challenge perceptions of 'othered' identities is to offer understanding and experience - this comes from sharing our queer stories/voices. These are the stories we didn't have growing up but vert much needed. We believe they need to be shouted about and celebrated.

We want to tell working class stories and highlight the identities, stories, and communities from our homes. Working class identities are often reduced to side characters or political/comical tools. There is a joy and strength we find in telling these stories and celebrating these characters for they are beautiful, funny, resilient, and provide the perfect setting for themes of community, friendship, and love.

We hope to be trailblazers for queer work in the North East (and nationally) as we contribute towards a vibrant and evolving queer theatre scene. This involves:

- Providing platforms and space to champion and celebrate queer artists, their work, and their voices from the North East and nationally.

- Create and sustain a national network of queer artists/creatives/venues which works towards a common goal of representation, visuality, creativity, and celebration.

Ultimately. we want to continue to surprise ourselves and our audiences with the work we make, what it looks like. and the stories we are able to tell. We don't want to be comfortable, boring, or predictable but rather continue to evolve both our practice and what we bring to audiences both in production and experience.

We are a previously NORTH supported company (Northern Stage) and associated with Live Theatre and Alphabetti Theatre (Newcastle).

We are also associated with Paines Plough through the REBUILD Programme 2021.
